The Ilinizas, located in the western mountain range of the Ecuadorian Andes, are two twin volcanic peaks: the Iliniza Norte (5,126 meters) and the Iliniza Sur (5,248 meters). While the Iliniza Norte is a rocky summit and relatively more accessible for mountaineering, the Iliniza Sur is covered with glaciers, making it more challenging. Both peaks offer spectacular views of the surroundings and are popular destinations for mountaineers and hikers seeking adventure. The area around the Ilinizas is characterized by Andean paramo landscapes and rich biodiversity, being part of the Los Ilinizas Ecological Reserve. In addition to its natural appeal, the Ilinizas have cultural and spiritual significance for local indigenous communities.
