El Altar Volcano, located in the province of Chimborazo, Ecuador, is one of the most spectacular mountains in the Andes. Its summit, a collapsed caldera, is surrounded by snow-capped peaks reaching 5,319 meters (17,300 feet). The area is famous for its lagoons, such as Laguna Amarilla, formed by melting snow, and its challenging hiking trails that traverse high moorlands and rocky terrain. It is a popular destination for hikers and mountaineers seeking dramatic landscapes and breathtaking views of the Andean wilderness.

Day 1

  • Departure 07:00 a.m. Baños.
  • Journey to the La Candelaria village
  • Technical stop in Penipe (Tasting of «tortillas de tiesto»).
  • Arrival at Hacienda «ReLeche».
  • Explanation by the guide for hiking , 6 hours approx.
  • Rest and dinner in base camp at 4.000 meters high (Collanes valley).

Day 2

  • Breakfast 7:00 a.m.
  • Hike to 4.300 meters  (Location of Laguna Amarilla).
  • Time for photos and videos.
  • back down to 4,000 meters high
  • Lunch and take all things of the base camp.
  • Back to Hacienda «Re Leche» 4 hours approx.
  • Back to Baños (approx 05:00 pm).
